Happy National Lutheran Schools Week! I hope your child is enjoying the fun so far. I like
getting to come to school wearing something different every day this week!

I have a question for you. Should a classroom always be quiet? A lot of folks think the answer
should be yes – but I don’t agree. I love to hear “good noise” in a classroom when I visit. That’s
noise that’s reflective of student excitement, engagement, and interest in the educational
activity they’re involved in. Learning is an interactive experience, and it should engender
student talk and chatter – maybe even an excited shriek or yell depending on the circumstance!

My love for “good noise” in a classroom is why I love the NLSW theme this year so much. It’s
“Let’s Make a Joyful Noise” based on Psalm 98:4: “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises!” Believing in Jesus Christ is not something that’s
quiet! We should be bursting with excitement and joy because of all that our Savior has done
for us and how much He loves us. And that should lead us to sing, shout, pray out loud, and
excitedly spread the good news about Jesus to everyone we meet. Find a way to make some
noise today – joyful noise in praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus.
