Have you ever known anyone with profound inner strength? This would be someone with the resilience, fortitude, and endurance to take on life’s greatest stressors and challenges. Lately I’ve been reflecting on an old friend who recently went home to Jesus and was a great exemplar of inner strength. I knew Florence Snow for many years back to our time serving a church and school in Jacksonville. She was one of the most giving people I’ve ever known and was always thinking of others and generous with her time and resources. She displayed incredible inner strength in the face of stroke, cancer, and surgeries as well as the lengthy illness and death of
her husband. Through all of that she was always more interested in the needs of others then her own.
I’ve been thinking about Florence’s inner strength in the context of our theme for this school year “Feel the Power!” based on 2 Timothy 1:7. Ephesians 3:16 talks about the true source of inner strength: “That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened
with power through his Spirit in your inner being.” Florence Snow’s inner strength did not come from her own innate abilities or traits. Instead, it was a gift from God and a product of her abiding faith in Jesus. Perhaps today your strength is flagging, and you feel like you don’t have the ability go on or deal with a particular challenge in your life. Rest assured that you can through God who will strengthen you with His power. Lay it all on Jesus in faith and prayer and feel the power He places in your inner being.
