Remember when your kids were little and you couldn’t wait for them to say their first words? You were anxious to hear that first “dada” or “mama” even though it ended up maybe being “poopoo”. Then some time passes and oh my they are talking and talking and talking and perhaps you wished it had never started! My son is currently at a stage when he just…can’t…shut…up. I know I’ve heard more about Minecraft lately then, well, anything else in my life!

I’ve been thinking about my kid’s constant chatter in the context of our theme for this school year “No Fear” based on Isaiah 12:2: “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” Like our kids, we’re often glad to talk about our favorite sports team, the latest show or movie we’re streaming, or the recent pandemic or political news. But when it comes to our faith and our love for Jesus, are we as forthcoming? Acts 18:9 says, “And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent”. Perhaps like me sometimes you’re afraid or uncomfortable to talk about God or the Bible or your life as a Christian. We think we don’t know enough, won’t say the right words, or won’t be able to answer questions if asked.  But God says, “No fear…speak up!” He will provide you with the words and the inspiration necessary to be a witness to your faith. Tell your story about the wonderful things God has done in your life and the blessings you’ve received as a result. Those you are talking to will benefit by hearing God’s truth through your words; if it’s me I’ll just be glad you’re not talking about Minecraft 🙂
