What’s new for you this summer? Got any big plans? We are going on a real family vacation for the first time in several years. We’ll be visiting Rocky Mountain National Park, the Grand Canyon, and other places out west. Later in the summer my wife and I will make our first trip together overseas as we visit London – a 50th birthday present from her family (I know she looks like a trophy wife, but she really is 50). Summer is a great time to see new places, do new things, and meet new people.

This year I’ve written a lot about what it means to be “New in Christ” based on 2 Corinthians 5:17. Being new in Christ means you are forgiven and free. You are no longer a prisoner of your past or the sin that may have weighed you down. I want to encourage you and your children to embrace that freedom this summer and try something new. Find a local spot you’ve always wanted to check out and explore it. Let your children cook dinner or learn a new hobby. Have family devotion or prayer time in the backyard under the stars or at the park or the beach. The possibilities are endless! God has created an amazing world for us – embrace it with wonder this summer like it’s brand new. See you in August!
