When you pray, what do you pray for most often? For me lately my prayers have been for peace. This latest huge surge of the pandemic has created its share of chaos here at school and in our homes and businesses. It’s frayed nerves, disrupted lives, created conflict, and most significantly sickened many. I know I’ve not always been at my best, and my life has felt frenetic and harried and complicated and way too busy. Definitely not peaceful!

I’ve been thinking about this search for peace in the context of our theme for this school year “We are the Body” based on I Corinthians 12:12-27. Where does peace ultimately come from and how do we find it? I hope it’s no surprise to you that the only way we find peace is in Jesus Christ. That’s why I love Colossians 3:15: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Isn’t that a great verse? We as a body of Christ are called to be peaceful both in our own hearts and towards each other. I love the idea of Christ ruling in my heart. He is the King of my life, and only with His peace can I really love and care for others. I was on the receiving end of this peace recently at the end of a long, difficult, very hard day. One of the last emails I received in the evening was from a school parent pouring out encouragement and thanks into me. I was stressed and defeated; then I read that message and I went to bed at peace. What a blessing! Who in your life can you reach out to today and share the peace that comes from Jesus?
