Raise your hand if you really want this school year to continue into June. I’ll wait…go ahead…let me see…hmmm I don’t see too many hands up 🙂

I think we’re all ready for this school year to end and to try and salvage some kind of summertime for our families. It’s been a tough season for everyone – teachers learning to navigate new technology and transition curriculum online, parents having to take on supervisory educational roles they’ve never had to before, and students trying to learn without the in person support of their teachers as well as the social support of friends. Add in stay at home orders, “creative” toilet paper, scary news headlines, no trips to the theme park or grandma’s house, and it makes you just want to put on your bathing suit and float in the pool for a week.

As we prepare to end this year, I want to reflect one more time on our theme for this school year “Christ-fit for Service” based on 1 Peter 4:10-11. As we bring things to a close, I want to tell you how thankful I am for the way you have served me. You might be saying to yourself Rod how did I serve you? In more ways than you know! Thank you for the many words of kindness and encouragement; for the free food – doughnuts, pizza, cookies, peanuts and more; for responding with help before I even asked; for smiling and wishing me well when I was having a rough day and you didn’t even know it; for sharing your precious children with me – they are the light in my life every day. Matthew 25:40 says “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ I am surely the least among us, and in serving and lifting me up you were always serving our loving God. I am forever thankful!

As we head into a summer of uncertainty and unknowns, embrace a spirit of continued service in the name of Jesus in praise for all He has done.
