Staff Feature: Moriah, Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) K-9 Comfort Dog

April 23, 2026

At St. Luke’s, one of our most beloved “Staff Members” walks on four paws. Meet Moriah, our Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) K-9 Comfort Dog, who has been faithfully serving our school, church, and community for the past four years. Trained in Northbrook, Illinois through LCC, Moriah is prepared for a unique role centered on presence and care. Her work reflects the LCC mission to share the mercy, compassion, presence, and proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who are suffering and in need. A meaningful verse connected to her ministry is 2 Chronicles 5:13, reminding us of the power of God’s presence among His people.

When she is not on campus or out serving, Moriah enjoys a joyful and restful routine. She loves relaxing on her adult-sized dog bed, rolling around, and playing with her chew toys and stuffed animals. Around campus, Moriah has quite the following. She is a favorite at the Lutheran Haven, enjoys spending time in the Youth Room during playtime, and attends one church service each week.

Moriah is supported by a dedicated team who make her ministry possible. The program is overseen by Mr. Greg Register, Principal of 1st through 8th grades at St. Luke’s. She is cared for by two primary caregivers and supported by seven trained handlers who have completed training in Illinois. Ministry Partners also serve alongside her during visits, ensuring she is always accompanied as she serves others.

One fun fact about Moriah is that she knows exactly when it is time to work. When she puts on her vest, she understands she has a job to do. She is well rewarded for her efforts with her favorite “paychecks” of playing ball or receiving a relaxing massage. At her core, Moriah serves as a bridge, bringing comfort in times of crisis simply by being present. We are so grateful for the joy, comfort, and Christ-centered love Moriah brings to the community and to our St. Luke’s family.
