Staff Feature: Mr. Gary Hickey
This week’s Staff Feature is Mr. Gary Hickey, our dedicated Director of Maintenance, as he prepares to retire in April 2026 after an incredible 29 years at St. Luke’s. Throughout nearly three decades of service, Mr. Hickey has faithfully worked behind the scenes to keep our campus safe, welcoming, and running smoothly.
In addition to his daily work, Mr. Hickey has played a significant role in the growth of St. Luke’s. He was involved in the construction and planning of the big school building, Slavia Square, and the Family Life Center leaving a lasting impact on the campus our students and families enjoy today. Outside of work, he enjoys cruising, where he especially likes to snorkel. One of his favorite St. Luke’s traditions is the Sunrise Easter Service.
Family is at the heart of Mr. Hickey’s life. He and his wife, Sheryl, who is from Wisconsin, have been married since 1987. They have two sons, one a Lutheran teacher and the other a Lutheran pastor, and they enjoy spending time with their three grandchildren.
Reflecting on his time at St. Luke’s, Mr. Hickey shares that it has deeply impacted his life and faith. Over the years, he has built lasting friendships and found a true sense of belonging. “St. Luke’s has always been good to me,” he says. “It’s a great place to belong.” St. Luke’s is truly thankful for Mr. Hickey and his many years of faithful service and wishes him all the best in his retirement.
