Do you know what it’s like to be married to a math and science teacher? Let’s just say it’s
“different”. Her Facebook feed definitely does not look like other people’s feeds. She routinely
corrects the science in TV shows and movies while we watch. And this is what passes for math
teacher relationships humor, “Variables break up with constants because they are incapable of
change.” I had to look it up: a constant is a fixed, unchanging numerical value or symbol in
mathematics that remains the same. Yes, it’s a laugh riot at our house!

That concept of a constant fits nicely with our theme for this school year “Lord, Teach Us to
Pray” based on Philippians 4:6. Romans 12:12 teaches us to: “Rejoice in hope, be patient in
tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Our lives will always be full of changes and twists and turns
– and yes plenty of tribulation. Nothing in this world seems to stay the same for very long. But
the one thing that does not have to change is our prayer relationship with God. He is always
listening, always responding, always yearning to hear our hopes and fears and concerns and
joys. Never stop praying – it’s the constant that allows you to rejoice in your hopes and endure
your tribulations with patience.
