This week’s Teacher Feature is dedicated to one of our fantastic 1st Grade teachers, Mrs. Matson!
Mrs. Matson has been married to her husband, Tom, for 21 years and has three beautiful children: two teenage boys, Owen and Luke, and an 8-year-old daughter, Harper, who is currently a student with us here at St. Luke’s. Mrs. Matson’s other two sons are St. Luke’s graduates and she attests that it was not only the solid education but also the love that her children received from their teachers during their time here as one of the many reasons why she loves working for our school.
Speaking of schools, Mrs. Matson is proud to be a Gator fan through and through and enjoys watching games with her children on the weekends when she is not watching her own children out on the soccer fields or cross-country trails! During her studies at the University of Florida, she took an extra course on entomology (the study of insects) and was required to create a bug collection for one of her assignments. One little known fact about our lovely Mrs. Matson is that she still has that collection in her classroom closet and continues adding to it each year with the help of her brave students!
Mrs. Matson’s favorite moments working for the school have been during the Seder Meal held each year. She enjoys watching the children draw closer to Jesus during Holy Week by experiencing a recreation of the Last Supper. Her current favorite Bible Verse is 1 Peter 4:10: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace”.
