At my house we recently got some new light bulbs for our living room. They’re “smart bulbs” that we can manipulate with an app or a voice assistant. I had no idea all the different things you can do with light bulbs! We can adjust the color (hot pink lighting anyone?) or brightness or we can make the lighting “warm” or “cool” (I admit I don’t really know what that means.) Back in my day it was just “on” or “off”!
I’ve been thinking about our light bulbs in the context of our theme for this school year “See the Light…Be the Light” based on John 8:12. One of the things my wife and I had to agree on was the “color temperature” we wanted for the lights; we played with the sliding scale until we found a setting that we could both live with. Let’s just say that wasn’t easy 🙂 One thing we definitely can agree on though is what Isaiah 60:19 teaches us: “The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” Finding the best color temperature for our light bulbs doesn’t really matter because our Lord Jesus will always be the perfect light for our marriage, our family, and our home. He is consistently the right temperature, the correct color, and always shines brightly to show us the way.
